Special LE Package includes: 1 x High Resolution File Disc / 1 x 100% Premium Made CD / 1 x Unique disc performance report matched with each Serial Number.

High Resolution File Disc: A double Layer DVD (DVD-9) contains both 24bit/96kHz & 24bit/192kHz master music files. These hires files are 100% bit-transparent to the master. First time our customer can listen to the exact same master tape at home. Both 192kHz & 96kHz files are included, to provide maximum playback compatibility, without scarify using inferior SRCs (sample rate converter) on computer, soundcard and other up-sampling devices. This DVD cannot be played by CD, DVD, SACD player, it is created to copy sound files on computers, HTPCs, or other highend audio harddisk players such as Linn DS, Naim Audio HDX and of course the Weiss Engineering Minerva/DAC2 as computer interface.

DWSQC DISC takes a full time engineer to create 100% in house with the superior CD-R* material and specific low speed creator. This is different than other companies using high speed CD-R duplicator. Each final CD-R is inspected by our QC engineer. The Double Disc Limited Edition package includes an unique performance printed report matched with each DWSQC serial number. The industry standard is < 220, the “DWSQC” tolrence is extremely tight < 5. This QC method was used during CD Mastering session. It cosumes very high cost and long production time. Each DWSQC CD takes average 60mins to produce, measure and report. The benefit however, is exactly the method we have been done on all our CD masters! This is one of the most challenging and transparent QC ever in CD production. It is a tailor made procedure with highest quality expectation. If audiophile would like to focus on the very best details, we certainly would like to offer.

*The CD-R material cannot be found in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. We direct import them from Japan.

To represent our engineers stand behind all of our products, each package includes a serial number and QC engineer signature. We recommend our customers to register their serial numbers on this website. This provides a membership for future title pre-order priority, disc replacement* and free sample of hi-res mixed tape download from our website before the album releases to public.

      Hello Stephan,

Thanks for your interest! We are on going creating the the Premium Made CD-R and have been finished for about 300pc. The procedure is very time consuming.

      (1) Print Discface
      (2) Create the Premium Made CD-R like creating our CD-Master
      (3) Verify each individual disc performance
      (4) Print out each disc unique performance to match with serial number

We expect to launch this L.E. production in middle of December. We will have official announcement and audio magazine advertisements by then. For other locations, we will have new announcement to partnership with various audio specialist stores, and local distributor.

Thanks again for your interest. I hope you will enjoy our sound and music. Next week we are adding one new song on our server free to download in both 24bit/96kHz and 24bit/192kHz. They will be exactly the same as our DVD DATA dsic.

      Hi

Can you tell us what format the DVD data disc files will have? WAV, Flaq or ??

Please put me on the list for purchasing your limited edition package.

      Thanks

    4. November 18th, 2008 at 11:19 | #4

      Hello Kerry,

Thanks for your comment. The DVD data disc includes the WAV file format. Since it includes both 24bit/96kHz AND 24bit/192kHz on all 13 songs, the DVD is a double layer 9GB disc. (DVD9).

The reason why we decide to include both 96kHz and 192kHz, because we believe many USB DACs are limited to 96kHz, even though some can accept 192kHz, the signal path will has SRC (sample rate conversion) involved. On the other hand the Weiss DAC2/Minerva is fully compatible with 24bit/192kHz. We decided to include both formats, end user can pick which one they prefer to use in their setups.

Moreover, we treat the Limited Edition package as a special one. Each copy has a unique serial number, end user are welcome and suggested to register their copy for future reference. For example if there is LE package owner wants 24bit/44.1kHz, we will provide this conversion service FREE OF CHARGE. One of our potential owners Brian, who has a Kong 1000 DSD recorder, we can provide him DSD files FREE OF CHARGE. We treat each LE package registered owner as a licensee, that we continue build on technology with our good music.

I think this concept is rather new, similar to computer software upgrades.

      Dear Vash,

Thanks for your kind words. I will make sure you get a copy.

We finally managed to find the best quality CD-R in Japan, and setup a formal production procedure. I have looked and analyze other products in the market.

      CD-R Copies:

Most if not all CD-R copies products in the current market are made by CD duping copier. However if you have gone through our procedure you will know CD-R is not a stable media, even with the best media we directly import from Japan. In a pack of 50 CD-Rs, some of them have very high errors that cannot be read by CD transport.

Therefore we have measured each of them individually and included the measurement printed report to match with each serial number. Registered user can also see the measurement report online. The BLER (block error rate) report from our current 500pc batch shows the highest C1 error is less than 2, while the lowest one is 0.2. The industry standard is 220 C1. We also verify none of the LE Premium CD-R has any C2 and CU.

In our current 500pc batch, we have rejected over 80pc. (photo later) You can see with our best imported Japan StartLab media, our tolerance is very tight to reach 16% QC rejected rate. This has been our standard procedure for producing CD Master. Our QC engineers just have to do it 1250 times. It is very time consuming procedure.

The DVD9 Data disc includes 24bit/192kHz and 24/96kHz WAV file. The universal WAV file support any platform. PC, MAC, harddisc player, music server etc. These high resolution files quality is superior and exactly 100% same as our hi-res master.

We think it will be the future of audio.

You can try download our sample song from here: http://www.designwsound.com/dwsblog/?page_id=318

The whole production cost is very high, and we are not going to sell 5000 copies. It creates a conflict that what price should we target on street. We have saw $800 a CD-R copy but even without a measurement chart. I personally want LE package to be in HK$250 area. But that’s mean even I sold out all 1250pc, I have no profit. We will see.

      Bests,
      Kent

      Dear Kent
      you said

“High Resolution File Disc: A double Layer DVD (DVD-9) contains both 24bit/96kHz & 24bit/192kHz master music files…This DVD cannot be played by CD, DVD, SACD player, it is created to copy sound files on computers, HTPCs,”

      and

“The DVD9 Data disc includes 24bit/192kHz and 24/96kHz WAV file. The universal WAV file support any platform. PC, MAC, harddisc player, music server etc. These high resolution files quality is superior and exactly 100% same as our hi-res master.”

Therefore, a 24/192 and 24/96 WAV files canot be played back by DVD player?

    10. November 20th, 2008 at 14:53 | #10

      Hello again,

DVD player does not work with data base file. In a DVD production, there is a final stage called “DVD Authorizing”. This is a process of packing all media (video/audio/photos/data) in an encoded form to fit in the DVD-Video or DVD-Audio spec.

      http://www.designwsound.com/Design_w_Sound_-_Kent_Poon_DVD_Mastering_Hong_Kong.html

For example if you buy a DVD Video concert disc, you cannot directly import one particular song on the DVD-Video disc to your music player. It requires an deMux (decoding) procedure.

Our DVD9 DATA disc is like a memory stick that store different sound files. You put in a computer and will see sound files in folders. These WAV sound files are universal sound format. Since they are not encoded for DVD-Video playback, each WAV file can be copied, moved to harddisk player, or import in your favorite hard disk player (iTunes, Monkey) etc.

The file will be exactly the same as you download our sample song from here: http://www.designwsound.com/dwsblog/?page_id=318

Hope this clear up the confusion and thanks for bringing it up.

      Dear Kent,

I have just bought your LE version. It is undoubtedly a devoted product! May I know where I can register my CD SN in your website?

I am surprised to know that you used the Plextor Premium to burn the CD because I use the same writer to duplicate music CDs to my friends for years ^^!

You said that AJP III would be in DVD-A format but now it uses DVD-R. For the HTPCs nowadays, I understand the strategy changed. I know how to use yr AIFF files to make my own DVD Audio by Steinberg WaveLab to enjoy the product at the highest standard. Do you have other better suggestion for softwares or methods?

I own a sound card of LynxTwo (Model C) and use it together with Steinberg Nuendo for my own multichannel recordings sometimes for some live activities in my job. If I need to publicize them to the internet, I use Nuendo to mix and its UV22 HR Dither for downsampling. May I know your personal comment about the qualities of the above hardware and softwares and tools compared with those of studio pro grade you use?

I registered your Inventory Audiophiles Production Course to be held on 21/2 and 22/2. I did fax my paid receipt to you but had not received any seat number yet as told in your two emails. Did the fax fail? How can I know if you received or not?

Looking forward to meeting you in the course. Thank you.

      Kevin Lo

    14. February 8th, 2009 at 19:30 | #14

Thanks for writing Kevin, you can just send me your SN number, contact email and name will do. In CD Mastering, my first CD-R is the Sony 900E, I had about 5 of them. From the beginning, they were US$3000 each. Then from the Plextor era, we have around 30 units. We still use Plextor Premium II for all CD-R cutting, match with best media (like That’s, TY etc) they provide the lowest BLER. Everytime we go Japan, we buy few of those drives.

If you soundcard allows to playback 24/192, then it surely is better than DVD-A. Wavelab is good for DVD-Audio product, but if you want to combine with DVD-V (max. 24/96) you will need something else.

So you make recording also? That’s interesting, we can talk about having some collaborations. UV22HR is not for downsampling by redither from higher bit rate (24bit) back to lower bitrate (16bit). It is simple form of high noise level at 22kHz to have its name “UV22″ by Apogee. I prefer POW-r that Weiss is part of the creator. It is a more complex noise-shaping method.

Yes, I had your seat confirmed. I am actually not planning on all the seating and will send everyone a registration soon. Thanks for joining this course. I look forward to meet everyone too.

      Bests,
      Kent

      Hi Kent,

      Thanks for you fast reply!

The SN of my LE version is 0115. I guess that you did have my contact email and name.

My CD writer is Premium only but not Premium II. Mine is older. I did compare those CD-R disks I can access in the normal market by my own ears only. I burnt differest brand of disks bought into the same source and found an acceptable one called Memorex Music CD-R. Did you know or test on it?

My sound card can playback and record in 24/192. If I burn a DVD-A for your project and play it in my coming Denon A1UD Universal player or other players of similar grade, do you still think that it is better for me to use my own sound card to playback the AIFF files stored in hard disks? Do you have any suggestion for which DVD-R writer or empty disk I should use to get an optimum DVD-A? In fact, this sound card is designed for being inserted into a mainboard directly. Is it a wrong design for pro use? Should it be interfered by other parto of my desktop e.g. power ? Should the design with external hubs be better for eliminating noise?

It seems that Nuendo should have no POW-r for me to use. It and WaveLab alike provides only UV22, UV22HR, Intern for dithering. Its manual suggests these tools only for dithering and I use UV22HR for downmixing and downsampling. Are they, in your opinion, not for or not GOOD for dithering actually? Where can I find POW-r? Is it a standalone program or a tool in some big software or even a hardware?

Since I am not using MAC, I can’t use Protools instead of Nuendo. May I know your comment about the differences of their qualities? Should the quality of what I am using be in a consumer grade only? What are they lacking of when compared with what you use?

I really appreciate your devotion and opened attitude of replying emails/comments/questions concerning your own specailized knowledge from all kinds of people here. Please feel free to choose to reply as I know I hv too many questions here. I just find to meet a professional and can’t help myself asking^^. Thank you very much.

      Hello Kevin,

Nice to hear from you again. The burned CD-R quality is depended on the combination between the media and burner. I think the listening differences also varies between different playback system. A great de-jitter system will make these differences very small, or not even detectable.

For playback 24/192 file vs. DVD-A playback, this again depends on what DAC you use for the purpose. I will prefer 24/192 file playback directly from the computer with my setup because I know my setting the digital output from my computer is bit transparent, and my DACs are immune to jitter. The power supply design, interface design inside the computer may affect the jitter performances, this is true. However if you have a good DAC, then you have no worry.

Sometimes I use plain dither, I am not saying they are not good, depends on what type of music. For acoustics I always find POW-r preserves more details and timbre quality of my 24bit master. POW-r is included on all Weiss hardware processors, it also supply with logic if I’m correct.

Protools & Nuendo are tools just like all other programs, the final product quality can be excellent on both platforms. I also use Nuendo also for mixing, but I don’t use much the on board softwares. For mastering, I am still a hardware guy. Almost all of my processing are done via hardware boxes, which I think is good for my workflow. Sometimes full digital processing, sometimes going back to analogue processing and back to digital through extra ADDA.

No matter Audiophile Jazz Prologue project, the blog, website. I think there are less and less people devote their time and effort on high quality audio. My intention is to know as many people love audio as I can, through direct communication with each other, we can continue our journey of sound. Thanks for your writing.

      Bests,
      Kent
