Part: II: Thanee compared using a HiFace USB to Coaxial connection and the Weiss internal firewire connection with internal master clock. He likes the firewire connection much more and describe it as ”…. The sound from firewire port is smoother, fuller and more condense as you watch high def 1080p compares to 720p….”. He also shares experiences to use both PC and Mac platforms, which are both supported by Weiss. Everyone who knows Weiss background in professional recording market will be interested the quality of headphone monitoring. Modsagna uses a Sennheise HD800 as reference.

Here is Tumnoon Prateepichinda very detail Weiss DAC202 review.

(1) Live Recording Event. We setup one live Jazz piano recording and do live and playback. The recording setup is minimal at 24bit/192kHz. A stereo XY microphone plug directly to Weiss Firewire ADC2 as recording directly to Macbook Pro 17″. We playback audio with Weiss DAC202 to ATT202 as preamp, directly to ATC SCM100ASL active speakers. The most amazing moment was playing back the recorded materials, the pianist played live together as piano duo. We may later released this live recording as free hi-res samples.

(2) Computer Audio Seminar – This is a 2 hours event. Thanks so much for Tumnoon Prateepichinda to host this event with me with his professional inputs. We discussed various topics regarding computer as source. The major idea is always when 99.8% of recording are made inside a computer, there is no reason why using computer playback is inferior. Moreover, we have gone above 16bit/44.1kHz for more than a decade, it should be time to move on.

(3) Format War – Thank you Dr. Krailerk and the vinyl group attendees. During the first section, each of the vinyl and digital groups playback 2 songs with male and female vocal. We use entirely different styles and music, so everyone enjoyed both playback nicely. The second section was more interestingly that we used vinyl as source, comparing direct vinyl playback and with adding Weiss ADC2/DAC202 layer of analogue to digital / digital to analogue conversion. It is not a fair comparison and no conclusion whatsoever on the format war theme, but it gave everyone a great comparison between the cable and added layer on AD/DA. We started vinyl playback and after few minutes I calibrated the Weiss ADC2 input, at that moment the music was mute. I called off the playback and told everyone the setup was wrong that what they heard in last few minutes were actually vinyl went through the Weiss ADC2/DAC202. They were quite amazed and requested few more comparisons until we were rushed to pack up and leave to airport. Next time I hope we can also demonstrate record the vinyl playback on computer and playback for comparison. We already have some customers who use Weiss ADC2 to store their vinyl in 24bit/192kHz as digital archives.

This is the first place you read this info and we are not yet make it for public. We have setup our new sister company “Square Wave Limited” that will bring some new exciting products to the market. “Square Wave Limited” maybe you got the meaning on “1010101001011″ binary and digital numbers. We hope to turn zero to one without distortion.

The first announcement will be officially distribution of Japan “Neo Created by Oyaide” cable products.

By Weiss development we have to find some decent cables: Good outlook, solid built quality, great specification – good eye patterns/double shielding, and the biggest concern is not expansive. We personally visited Neo Oyaide head quarters in Tokyo twice to meet with the design team and discussed on these topics. It came to our attention that its d+Firewire is the best all round solution we have been looking for and we sell this d+ Firewire cable as a service almost exclusively for Weiss users. We do have few customers bought this d+Firewire cables for dCS 1394 DSD connections with great results too.

The decent size of Weiss users in our region, plus oversea orders has brought us a surprising sales result. We offer competitive prices, quickest turnover and secure payment via paypal has gain terrific results from oversea users. The feedbacks are all excellent. Some of them are using ultra expansive firewire cables (which we initially DO NOT recommend and neither think it will gain performances), we are happy that they report the d+ Firewire works as good that they are willing to sold their ultra expansive firewire cables for something else (we recommend HDtrack.com high res. music for example). More importantly, since we introduced this Neo d+Firewire cables, we receive ZERO call for assistant, that Weiss firewire products cannot connect to computer. We usually receive few cases every month and most are caused by bad quality firewire bought from computer junk store.

Oyaide is one famous traditional Japan cable manufacturer. “Neo created by Oyaide” is the 2nd label which works independently. Most target customers are high profile Japanese and international music producers, studio engineers and artists. This is one big reason I like this brand. We share the same professional audio background.

After the successful release of d+ Firewire, next product range is d+USB series. Oyaide carry high reputation for its own custom made connectors design. The d+USB series has 3 types of connectors: Class B (24K Gold Plated Bronze Alloy), Class A (Silver + Rhodium Plated Bronze Alloy) and ultimately Class S (Platinum + Rhodium Plated Bronze Alloy) . All three series provides great tech spec. on eye patterns and double shielding. The outlook is even better than d+Firewire. With more popular USB DACs in the audiophile market, we look forward d+ USB to be one of the better solutions.

Black Mamba-α 電源線在日本很多頂尖音响工程師和音樂製品生產商中被廣泛使用。它使用了重型3.5sq PCOCC -甲導體與及Oyaide著名P/C-029“Black Mamba”插頭。當然，我們展示室中的Weiss以及The Rock音箱等設備都是使用Black Mamba-α 電源線作為電源線首選。設計目標是高分析力，全黑背景澡音，高資訊度，相位準確及全頻高平衡力。用家在專業市場全是國際及日本著名監制，明星級音樂人和錄音師，可見其地位之高。

特製的PCOCC-A單結晶無氧銅是使用專利的大野連續鑄造法，用很慢的速度連續抽銅，讓銅的結晶變得非常大，單一結晶的長度可以超過200公尺以上，當應用在一般音響線材上面時，整條線的銅導體都在「單一結晶」當中，也就是說PCOCC沒有傳統銅線的結晶縫隙，訊號傳導就更純淨。而Neo所使用的PCOCC-A，代表經過退火(annealed)製程。傳統銅線經過退火會摻入雜質，降低純度，但PCOCC則因為結晶超長，單一結晶沒有縫隙讓雜質跑進來，所以可以得到退火之後提高導電特性與線身柔軟度之優點，卻沒有雜質混入的缺點。經過退火的PCOCC-A，不僅線身較柔軟、導電性能更好，線身韌性也提高，更不容易折斷，也提升了線材的使用壽命。

LC-OFC Quantum（Linear Crystal Oxygen-Free Copper)，線性結晶無氧銅線材在80年代中期是非常著名的傳奇線材，LC-OFC具有極高的純度（99.995%以上）與低於10ppm的超低氧含量，音色極為透明卻又非常溫暖，因此廣受音響迷的喜愛。後來Hitachi開發了性能及聲音更優異的LC-OFC Quantum線材。不過，時序進入21世紀，Hitachi終止了音響線材的生意而停產，但Neo注意到許多音響迷對LC-OFC Quantum仍舊著迷，於是在2008年底向Hitachi要求重啟LC-OFCQuantum線材生產線，並以訂製的LC-OFC Quantum線推出採用QAC-202訊號線
