Right after came back from Thailand Bangkok BAV Show, there are many stuffs on the line to share with you. But before anything else, few headphones were connected to Weiss DAC202 on my mastering console. We know many of Weiss DAC202 customers are enjoying the great performances of headphone listening.
May I give you an advice, if you do not triple clear that the retail price of this headphone is HK$26,000, DO NOT PUT THEM ON YOUR EARs and do not attempt to connect it to DAC202.
I did not expect this kind of sound quality level at all, and I have very high chance to order one. You all know I am using few flagship headphones on recording.
Hong Kong AV Show – Hall3 展覽廳3 D05. I will only be available on the first day of the show. (August 6th) before going to Taiwan for TAA 20th HiFi Show on August 7 & 8. But everyone who knows me well, this headphone combines the best of the best I have heard in different brands. It maybe the first headphone that I can judge on the final mastering frequency balance.
We will prepare all new and unique 24bit/96kHz & 24bit/192kHz Hi-Res demo audio materials from jazz, classical and few latest pop remastering projects (premier Gold Typhoon Hi-Res materials) with Sonic Studio Amarra Full 2.0 and Weiss Engineering DAC202. I will make absolutely sure there are something you never heard of.
I guess this will be the best you can get from hi-end listening, from a mastering engineering perspective.

It was my very pleasure to visit Wing Cafe in Osaka. This must a dream cafe for DIYer, especially Computer Audio Fans. Computer Audio does not belong in one fixed area. Application can be widely spread on all kinds of playback systems. I used to see these kinds of Jazz cafes in Japan with vinyl.

Kent Poon (潘建章)，是亞洲著名 Hi Fi 唱片錄音工程師及監製。在 1993 年於北美開始音樂製作，參與了大量 mastering 項目，由古典到 jazz、 hip hop、 electronic、 country 到 dance 或 pop 都有。Kent Poon 於 2003 年回到香港，錄製了《爵士原音》(“Audiophile Jazz Prologue”)，於音樂發燒界大受歡迎。 1997 年 Kent Poon 成為國際音響工程學會 (Audio Engineering Society, AES) 正式會員，是該會最年青會員之一。由 2003 年至 2007 年 Kent Poon 成為威達音響公司顧問。現在是瑞士 Weiss Engineering 顧問及其產品的亞洲區代表。近期受市場歡迎的音樂大碟如趙學而《聽聽》，張偉文，呂珊《聲王•聲后》等都是由 Kent Poon 親自操刀，監控整個錄製過程及負責最後的製版處理，然後交到日本的 HQCD 總部壓印。

During this Japan trip, we scheduled to meet with one famous audiophile in Tokyo. Few years ago he co-worked with ex-Sony engineer and built a set of full digital amplifier called “Sound Design” with digital input. Audio is his only hobby and he spent his own money to invest on many recordings which have not yet release to the market, including many open reels recording. My visit is to listen to those recordings and hope to partnership and promote a group of talent musicians, they are called “tjc – Tokio Jazz Collective”
The is not the first time I listened to low profile loudspeaker setting, and the recent Wilson Audio speaker Polaris is indeed an interesting idea. We listened to some of the master recordings at pure DSD resolution and the quality is stunningly well with great soundstage at the back of these loudspeakers. After listening at his home, he brought us to a italian restaurant just at a quiet corner, it was an excellent dinner.
We look forward to meet again soon, and also the kick start our partnership in near future.
We came back from Japan to Hong Kong almost a week. Things are too busy without a second of quiet time. As an audiophile, we know how much precious we have quiet time for some music listening, and of course wine time.
The computer audio world is growing bigger and bigger as times goes by. As an engineer we have spent long enough time to use computer on all kinds of audio/media productions. On the other hand the misconception and misunderstanding digital audio theories become more confusing. I guess that’s the fun part on every confusing topic, or we may say there is no such thing as absolute, except vodka. On May 29, we will host a Computer Audio Seminar SS10, hope we can group local audiophiles who are interested on CAS together for a meet, and also provide a guide for anyone who is interested on using computer as source. As least we hope after the seminar you won’t use iTunes to rip your 5000 CD collection to 48kHz WAV files because the number 48kHz is higher than 44.1kHz and therefore the result will be better…..no, it will be worse. There is another big plan going on for our CAS development which we should disclose in next week. At the same time we are handling a big series of high resolution recording projects, hopefully the final products will include HQCD, Hi-Res PCM, Hi-Res DSD and SACD. Of course Asia Weiss development is one key area.
We feel lucky to surround by high quality audio, although if you treat it as a business there are much to balance like every kind of business or career. The internet has brought people closer together in a phantom way, and many of these information may or may not be correct, and most of all represent certain/single perspective. They have not been judged or corrected in academic level. The internet has its own general mass judgement on every topic, and neither that means the general mass judgement is the correct way. But that won’t stop us.
We would like to thank all friends and partnership who spent their time meeting with us and exchange our audio utopia. I won’t listed their names on public but you know we are talking about you.

We didn’t expect to see the Sakura in Tokyo at this period of time. We visited our Weiss Authorized Reseller MixWave at 世田谷区新町. Once we went out from the subway station, we saw full bloom of Sakura.
Mixwave has extremely high audio technical background and handling many great pro audio brands such as API, CubeTec, Buzzaudio, Dynaudio acoustic, Maselec, Merging and ATI etc. Thank you very much Mixwave president Hirokazu Saika meeting and confirm to take care Weiss brand in Japan. Thank you Steven Stone for the great Sonic Amarra Review. We do enjoy the sound and features of Amarra. It makes the Apple iTunes combo so well with Weiss DAC2/DAC202/Minerva for advanced digital library and playback. Look forward to read your review article on Weiss DAC202.
